021 871 1200Faure & Faure was started in 1880 by Pieter Hendrik Faure, who later became Minister of Justice in the Cape Colony and was knighted. The firm says it is the oldest in Paarl and the second oldest in the Western Cape. Since 1976 it has been in the Patriot Pers Building at 227 Main Street. It merged with Hoffman & Meyer in 1996, when it became Faure & Faure Incorporated, and in the mid-2000s with Lloyd Fortuin Attorneys, which widened its reach into semi-urban and rural communities. The directors are Lloyd Fortuin, a human rights attorney and former UWC student leader, Zane Meyer, Christie Viviers and Marelize Meintjes.
Property work is a large part of the practice. The firm is on the conveyancing panels of Nedbank, FNB, ABSA and Standard Bank, and handles transfers, bonds and development work. It also covers divorce, maintenance, antenuptial contracts and adoptions, estates and trusts with a tax planning angle, labour disputes, insurance and compensation claims, and sport, where Lloyd Fortuin holds a sports law certificate.
Litigation runs from the Magistrates' Court to the High Court, and the firm offers a round-the-clock service for people arrested after hours or over weekends. Office hours are 08:00 to 16:30 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 16:00 on Fridays.
