About Friedland Hart Solomon & Nicolson Inc.

Friedland Hart Solomon & Nicolson (FHSN) brings together two old Pretoria practices. Schalk Willem Pienaar opened the first in 1898. It later traded as Pienaar and Marais, Marais Price and Clark, and Clark Solomon & Nicolson, with Pretoria mayor Ivan Solomon joining in 1922. It became Solomon & Nicolson, merged with Rein & Verster in 1991 and became Solomon Nicolson in 2006. The second, Friedland Hart & Partners, was formed in 1930. The two combined in 2009. In 1997 former partner Roger Cleaver became the first Pretoria attorney appointed to the Bench.

Managing partner Gerhard Painter has been with the firm since 1982, and Millie Shantall-Lurie since 1995. The website lists 12 attorneys, and about 60 staff support them. The office is at 4-301 Monument Office Park, 79 Steenbok Avenue, Monument Park, near the R21.

The firm says its litigation practice is among the larger ones in Pretoria, and it takes correspondent work in the High Court and the regional and district Magistrates' Courts.
