About Findlay & Niemeyer Inc

Findlay & Niemeyer is one of the oldest names in Pretoria practice. According to the firm's own history, Hudson Findlay, who came from the Cape, opened his office around 1892, briefly practised as Findlay & Rice, and then joined forces with his brother-in-law Gustav Niemeyer and N J Macrobert. Macrobert left around 1910 to start the firm now known as Macroberts. During the Anglo Boer War Findlay closed the Pretoria office and took his family to the Cape. His son-in-law Owen Price ran the practice from 1942, and Owen's son John Price led it from 1977. John, who studied at Natal and Cambridge and is an AFSA arbitrator, now serves as a practising consultant.

Today the directors are Martin Coetzee (BA LLB, Natal), Shubnam Singh, Rachelle Rossouw and Melani Ludik (all LLB, University of Pretoria, Ludik also holding a diploma in advanced labour law) and Philip Morgan (LLB, NMMU). The work is mostly civil: High Court and Magistrates' Court litigation, foreclosures and debt recovery, property transfers, bond registrations and cancellations, sectional title and bulk sales, deceased estates, wills, insolvency and divorce. The firm says its clients run from large banking groups to private individuals.

The main office is at 1027 Francis Baard Street (formerly Schoeman Street) in Hatfield, with a second office at 50 Eden Road, Bramley, Johannesburg.
