Its principal, Charl Lochner, came to private practice after a long career in the justice system. He joined the SAPS fraud and theft unit as a detective in 1980, prosecuted children's cases in Welkom in 1982 and 1983, and later became a district and then senior public prosecutor. From 1988 he sat as a magistrate in criminal, civil and children's courts and at one point advised the Minister of Justice. He practised as an advocate in Pretoria and KwaZulu-Natal from 1993 to 1995 and opened his own firm in Hatfield in 1996.
Children's cases under the Children's Act are the heart of the work. The firm handles disputes over care and contact, parenting plans and mediation, maintenance claims and enforcement, divorce, and protection orders. It also drafts antenuptial contracts and wills, deals with deceased estates and takes on some criminal and contract matters.
